My Very First, On My Own, Road Trip

Writer's picture: Abi Cliett Abi Cliett

Went down to Americus this past Friday through Saturday to spend time with family. Even though it was only a two hour car drive, it was my very first trip that I have ever gone on by myself. I was very excited but worried, but everything turned out amazing in the end. I made it down to my GG's house and we both ate a lovely lunch that consisted of cooked chicken, vegetables, and rolls. We chatted and shared how our lives had been going since we had seen each other last. Of course, as tradition, we went shopping around the local shops downtown. Let's just say we shopped till we dropped literally. We went to several different stores and found so many cute pieces. But the best part was that every store we went into was conveniently having a sale! It was such a coinincidence. After returning home and relaxing for a while, my grandmother and I left for dinner to meet up with some elderly friends at The Roman Oven. As usual I got the buffet and ate my heart out. Dinner was super fun as I got to catch up with my grandmother's friends to whom I had not seen in a long while. We proceed to one last shopping destination before returning home to showers and ice-cream, a favorite dessert of my late grandfather. We both went to sleep shortly after. This following morning, I woke to a cooked breakfast which included: scrambled eggs, english muffins, and fruit. After, I got dressed and put on my makeup. I wished my GG a good day as I proceeded to pick up my cousin Jordan and head over to my Nana and PawPaw's home. Upon arriving, we were greeted and welcomed into the home. We talked in the living room while my grandparents finished eating their breakfast. Around 11:30 a.m. we met my Uncle Bryan, Aunt Audra, and cousin Anna, as well as Uncle Jeremy at La Hacienda. We ate many tacos, burritos, a lots of bowels of cheese dip. "Lunch was delicious," I made sure to tell/thank my grandparents as Jordan and I proceeded to Downtown Americus hoping to achieve out goal of creating a vlog. We took many videos and lots of pictures. We stopped at DQ before making our way back to Nana's and PawPaw's. There, we stitched together the clips finally came up with our very first vlog where we added it to my cousin's youtube channel. We were both very excited and happy that we got the chance to make one together. (Make sure to check our vlog out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpB9DA4P9tMmache. Please leave a thumbs up if you enjoyed!!) I left Nana's and went back to my GG's to finish packing before I headed back home. Many hugs were given and many "I miss you already"s were said. After two and a half hours in the car, I arrived back in Newnan. My very first road trip is one that I will never forget! Americus, Georgia will always hold a piece of my heart because although the town is small, it is my second home. I grew up there, I come back there, and I love being there. I hope to continue going back by myself and with my brothers within the next couple of years. The drive is totally worth it!!
